Review: Aether Ones by Wendi Coffman-Porter

GENRE: Sci-Fi, Mystery

Leilani Falconi is a top agent for the Imperial Investigative Service, tasked with policing the veil between two realities. Long ago, the Great Sundering tore the universe into two mirrored halves; aether space, which progressed using magical energy or eldrich, and kuldain, which advanced via electromagnetic technology.

But now a series of suspicious deaths stretching back more than a decade has the agent trapped directly between secretive bureaucracies and their peoples. If she can’t solve the mysterious crimes in time, existence as she knows it could erupt into chaos.

Do you love reading science fiction? Do you love a storyline with a strong and a brave heroine? Are you an admirer of fictional settings?? Then the “Aether Ones” is definitely a right pick for you….

The story revolves around Leilani Falconi. She works as an agent for the Imperial Investigative Service. As an agent her task is to veil in between the two realities of the world. And she is currently trying to solve a case of suspicious deaths.

Will she succeed in solving the mysterious crimes in time?

Leilani is my favourite character. She is a no nonsense and result oriented agent who is extremely good at what she does. I enjoyed reading her sarcastic and cool attitude. She is a brave and strong woman. Throughout the storyline she is faced with a number of problems and challenges. But she overcomes each of them bravely. As the story proceeds, we get to know more about her. But somewhere I felt that I did not get to know the other characters as good as Leilani.

The plot is engaging and very well written. It is fast paced. The twist and turns were perfectly embedded into the plot and they kept me hooked to the book till the end.

The setting of the book is extraordinary. The author has really worked hard to develop and write the fictional setting of the story. In this fictional setting, the universe has split into two parts after an explosion. The two parts are Aether and Kuldain. They are almost similar to each other. One is magical while the other one is technologic. The real world and fictional world are blended very beautifully. I totally enjoyed reading about aliens and races. The action scenes were a also delight to read.

Overall, Aether Ones is a perfect blend of Sci-fi, mystery, fast paced plot, brave characters and thrilling action scenes. Definitely, a highly recommended read.

Wendi Coffman-Porter grew up an only child in a military family. She spent a lot of time as a child inventing new friends and sharing them with others. She began writing her stories down at the age of ten and by the time her first child was born she’d written her first novel. Her passion has always been the colourful canvas and creative freedom of fantasy and sci-fi. Be it roleplaying or writing in her office at home in Texas, with her pack of furry friends, she is always developing something new and colourful to share with others. Her fervour for incredibly rich realities that are as authentic as the ones outside your own window, is what drives her to constantly find out what’s happening around the next corner. Enabling her to reach a deep new understanding of the nature of life, no matter what form that life might take.
