Review: Deadline by Geoff Major

Book Blurb:

Adam Ferranti was drinking away his waking hours, getting by in a regional newspaper in the North of England. An award-winning journalist, he moved to England to escape the media glare that followed his spectacular fall from grace at The Washington Post; only to be thrust back in it when a mysterious serial killer decides to make him his confidante.

DS Stephanie Walker is a successful member of the West Yorkshire Police force. Whilst she is tough and results-driven at work, with a fearsome reputation on the streets, she hides the domestic abuse she suffers at home.

She finds Ferranti exceptionally difficult to deal with, but he’s her only chance to stay close to what the elusive killer is planning next. Ferranti reluctantly complies with the Police, even though he is fighting his own personal demons, but when his best friend is murdered by the killer, it suddenly gets personal. And suddenly, no-one is quite who they seemed to be

MY THOUGHTS:

Stephanie Walker works for the West Yorkshire Police. She is strong, determined and tough. She has suffered domestic violence and is stuck in an abusive relationship. She is suffering silently as showing any sign of weakness could be a huge mistake in her profession. Stephanie is currently working on a case revolving around a serial killer. And owing to certain reasons, she is thrown out of the case. Then further as the story proceeds, Stephanie joins hands with Adam Ferranti as he is only person in the whole world who can help her to nab the killer. Adam Ferranti is a journalist who has fled to UK after a scandal at Washington Post, he is in contact with someone who seems to have some relevant information regarding the serial killer. He is quite reluctant to work with Stephanie but one day his friend is murdered. Will Adam help Stephanie with the information?? Can Stephanie hunt the killer down??

Deadline is the debut novel of the author, Geoff Major, and I absolutely loved it!! It is a perfect bundle of mystery, crime, likeable characters, twists and turns and a nit biting plot!!

The characters in the book are amazing. I got invested in these characters so quickly to an extent where I felt that I actually knew them personally. I loved Stephanie. She is strong, fierce, result driven, dedicated and determined. Even Adam is fascinating. Certain events lead to a scandal which forced Adam to move to UK and the most interesting part is that the serial killer decides to make Adam his confidant.

The book kicks in right from the first page. The story is well written. There are no loose threads hanging around in the story. As the story proceeds further, the plot becomes even more complex. The plot is stunning full of mysteries and twists and turns which helps in getting the reader more involved in the book. These ‘Twists and Turns’ make the book unputdownable. I found myself joining the dots to deduce who the killer was. But I never succeeded!! All the credit goes to George Major. He has an amazing writing style. He knows when, how and where to twist the story.

Overall, Deadline is a stunning thriller full of suspense, twists and a dramatic ending which was completely unexpected and it took me by surprise! Definitely a highly recommended read for suspense, thriller lovers.

About Geoff Major:

A long time ago, Geoff Major had an idea for a story, whilst walking his girls to primary school. Two years ago, he decided he had the time and patience to try to write the story down. His wife was wholly supportive, so he turned from full-time to part-time for four months and now – 23 years after that idea first popped into his head – it has been published.

As a self-employed business consultant for 18 years and a fundraising adventurer for 10 years (including ski-trekking 50 miles, over 6 days and 6 nights, to the geographic North Pole), he now works for a debt charity whilst plotting his next three books

BLURB:

Zoe fainted on her wedding day, and she never knew why. She’s always felt sure something bad happened. Ten years later, she’s going to find out what…

It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. Zoe was sitting in her hotel room, in her perfect white dress, looking forward to the moment when she would make kind, handsome Toby her husband.

Then, there was a blank.

They said she must have fainted, overcome with emotion. But nothing felt quite right afterward. Did something happen in that missing time?

Now, Toby and Zoe have two beautiful children and a perfect life. They’re planning their ten-year anniversary party for their family and friends. The invitations have been sent, the food ordered. They’re going back to the grand hotel where they got married.

But as the anniversary gets closer, it becomes clear not everyone is looking forward to celebrating. She catches Toby lying about where he’s been. One of her best friends seems to be ignoring her. And someone is spreading stories that might stop the party from happening at all.

Zoe is increasingly sure that she doesn’t have the full story. But does she want to know the truth, if it will destroy everything?

MY THOUGHTS:

As Rightly described, the book is really unputdownable.

The book revolves around Zoe. On her wedding day, Zoe hit her head, fainted and lost her memory of that particular timeframe. Everyone said that she fainted because of emotions but deep down she knew it was something different…. something unusual. Now after 10 years, Zoe has a lovely family – a loving husband, two adorable kids, loving in-laws and her father. But how well do you know the people you surround yourself with? Is there a hidden agenda behind their ever loving and friendly nature?

The characters in the book are skillfully drawn and they felt realistic. I personally felt there could have been more to the story of Dina (Zoe’s sister) and that her story was left open and unexplored without a proper ending.

One special aspect of the book is that it is split between the PAST and PRESENT. And it helps in revealing the story bit by bit. I felt that the ending was a bit rushed but it was quite surprising and shocking as well! Apart from that I loved the storyline, it’s startling plots and revelations which I had not even imagined!! The story was unpredictable for me…And that’s what I loved about the book.

This is the first book that I have read of the author. And I am now super excited to read her previous books as this book has impressed me a lot!

“The Wife” is a very riveting and powerful and page turner story filled with suspense, love, mystery, lies, crime. I loved it. I would definitely recommend this book to all the book-lovers who love to read page-turner thrillers/suspense stories. This book definitely won’t disappoint.

RATING:

Until Next Time!!!
